La Zafra

Monóvar – Alicante

Mar and Ignacio have been making wine since 2016 and my goodness they have learnt quickly. After Mar's father died they realised how important his connection to the land was to them and the community and they didn't want to lose it. Mar's father hadn't made wine but like many farmers sold his grapes, almonds and olives to the local cooperatives for a pittance. They decided to do things differently and make delicious, elegant micro cuvees of wine from one hectare of vines planted with local varieties: Monastrell, Messeguera and Valenci negre. The area is so hot and arid it's hard to imagine how they manage to squeeze out of it such thirst quenching wines.
